Ormond Community Kindergarten

"help your child build their future"

In the case of a serious accident or emergency illness, the staff will endeavour to contact the parents and subsequently the emergency contacts listed on the child’s enrolment form. The name and telephone of a local emergency contact person with access to transport must be supplied prior to your child commencing. The kindergarten must be made aware of any change of contact. If it is considered that immediate hospital treatment is required, an ambulance will be called. The parents must meet this expense. All information relating to accident/illness will be recorded in the kindergarten’s Accident Book, which is kept in the kitchen

Allergies and Non Infectious Diseases

Parents with a child who suffers from an allergy must supply the following information to the kindergarten:   Nature of allergy  Symptoms/Reactions  Medication/Treatment  Any item of food that should be avoided

Families of children with non-infectious conditions (e.g. asthma, epilepsy, physical or other disabilities etc) are encouraged to disclose these matters to the Director. This will assist the staff that the best possible care is given to all children. All information received by the staff/kindergarten about any illness or disability shall be kept in confidence at all times.

According to kindergarten policy children with severe allergic reactions (e.g. bee stings, food allergies etc) who require medication such as epipen cannot attend kindergarten unless medication accompanies the child.

Infectious Diseases

Children who catch any of the infectious diseases outlined in the schedule issued by the Department of Human Services (displayed on the foyer Notice Board) must be cleared by a doctor before returning to the kindergarten. Some diseases have a contagious period before symptoms can be diagnosed, this can sometimes mean that infection is likely. Parents will be notified if any contagious diseases occur at the kindergarten, with the exception of HIV/AIDS that is covered by confidentiality legislation.

Immunisation

If your child is not immunised then they will be excluded from the kindergarten during outbreaks of infectious disease, e.g. measles, whooping cough (as per the Department of Human Services Infectious Diseases Schedule).
